Tree Surgery in Norwich

Today we have been carrying out more tree surgery in Norwich… We are carrying out some sectional felling on a row of Poplars.

The trees are being climb as there is no room and the ground is to wet for a MEWP (mobile elevated work platform). The first thing we do is a risk assessment followed by a survey for wildlife (nesting birds, Bat roosts etc)Bat area highly protected species and it is also illegal to damage birds nests whilst birds are nesting (Wildlife & Countryside Act 1981), After all the checks are complete Rory and Fred install a line into the tree ready to start to start climbing.

Myself and Chris did all the pre-start checks on the saws ready for use. Once Fred and Rory are ready to start me and Chris check surroundings and give them the ok to starting dropping limbs from the tree, once the limb is safely on the floor it is down to me and Chris to cut and stack the brash and wood away from the work area to avoid trip hazards, as soon as the brash pile has filled the area the climbers have 10mins to rest while we chip the brash.

No tree work is done while the chipper is running as safe communication between climber and ground staff can be carried out. The job took around 3 days to complete.
