Tree Surgery In Holt

Today our tree surgeons have been doing some tree surgery in Holt the job is to dismantle a large Horse Chestnut tree…

The tree was in decline due to bleeding canker a bacterial infection and as the crown was weighted over the road we decided to removed it.The tree was in a conservation area so first we had to put in an application form to North Norfolk Council the application takes six weeks to process.

We arrived on site and filled out a risk assessment form followed by a wildlife survey this involves looking for nesting birds, Bats etc all of which are protected by law Wildlife and Countryside act 1981. We then set the two way traffic lights again forms need till be filled in up to ten days before work commences, we needed to close one lane in order to park vehicles to work safely.

Fred then proceeded to climb making his way to the top of the tree to find a suitable place in which to install his main climbing line, pulley block and working rope ready for lowering later, he then made his way down the tree to the lower branches ready to start cutting crown and after the ok from the ground team proceeded to start dismantle the tree.

The rest of us were in charge of lowering the branches, cross cutting them and stacking them into neat heaps ready to process into wood chip later. We always wait to chip the branches as it can cause a communication brake down between ground staff and climber. On this occasion the customer waited to keep the wood for his fire so this was cut to suitable length and stacked in his garden, within 6 hours the tree was removed another happy customer.
