Today our tree surgeons are hard at work in Swaffham… We are dismantling some Poplar trees. The trees are growing along a ditch and the customer has had some fail in the recent weather he is now concern as the remaining trees are very exposed to the wind, We decided to sectional fell the remaining trees as they are in close proximity to the house. We arrived on site about 8.00am and carried out a risk assessment and wildlife survey and put out the appropriate signs etc, the ground was very wet so we had to climb instead of using a MEWP (mobile elevated work platform) this would have been unstable in these sort of conditions.
We decided that we would share the climbing duties Rory decided he would start so proceeded to make his way up the tree to find a suitable anchor point for his main climbing line, once this was in place he made he way to the first cutting point and after the ok from the ground staff started to remove branches Fred and Chris then cross cut the branches and stacked them in a neat pile ready to process into chip later, the logs were also stacked into a neat heap to keep the work area clean and avoid creating a trip hazard.
Rory continued to remove branch after branch until the only thing what was left was the main trunk, this was then dismantled section by section until we were at a point where we could fell it, some of the brash and wood was then laid out ready to fell the trunk on to this helps when cross cutting the wood and also helps to soften the impact from the falling trunk to avoid making a deep rut. Once the tree was down we then proceeded to chip the brash this was done this was done after to avoid communication breakdown between climber and ground staff. The trees were all safely down by day three and day four was spent tidying the garden.
