Today we are in Norwich Norfolk… The job is to dismantle a large Beech tree for Norfolk Highways. The tree is located on the edge of the a school field and is overhanging a busy road. The job is booked in for the end of July when the schools finish for the holidays, so in the mean time we have decided to carry a wildlife survey checking for Bat roosts and Nesting birds in the cavities.
This needs to be done previous to the work commencing because if there were Bats present we would have to notify the appropriate persons and get the Bats or Birds removed before the work started, and this can be a lengthy process.
We also had to fill in a opening notice prior to the works notifying Norfolk Highways of the dates of the work and what traffic management would be in place while the work was being done. On really busy roads there are sometimes time restrictions, so you can only work between those times and as the tree we would be working on is located next to a school we decided to leave it until the holidays so hopefully avoiding some traffic and restricted working hours.
