Today our tree surgeons in Norwich are carrying out selective limb reduction work… this is where over extended branch tips are removed back to a suitable growth point. The number of target cuts made should be kept to a minimum and the growth point left should be a third of the size of the parent branch.
The picture shows Rory one of our tree surgeons branch walking out to the branch tips.
The reason we carrying out this work was that the tree was overhanging a garage roof so we reduced the branches back to give a 3m clearance from the building. The day started with a risk assessment which involves looking for hazards ie wires, slip or trip hazards etc these are noted, then you have to try and aluminate or lower the risk or just aware of it.
Then we did a wildlife survey checking for nesting Birds and checking for any signs of Bat activity when all of this was complete we could then set up the site using tree cutting hazard signs and hazard tape creating a safe working environment for us and the general public
Rory was climbing today so started to make his way up the tree to install his main climbing line and rigging kit needed for lowering branches over sheds etc, once these were in place he started to make his way out to the first limb which needed work.
The rest of use where in charge of lowering , cross cutting and stacking the branches keeping the site clean to avoid creating trip hazards.
