Today our tree surgeons in Norfolk have been working in Dereham….
The job was to crown reduce two semi-mature Beech Trees by reducing overall dimension’s by approximately three meters.
The client originally wanted the trees to be felled to ground level but in the end they decided to keep them and just reduce the crowns.
This is not is not a ideal thing to do on a healthy tree but sometimes its the only option other than complete removal.
Reducing a healthy tree creates vigour and will congest the crown.
The day started with the usual risk assessment and check for nesting birds and other wildlife, once completed we set up the site using hazard tape and tree cutting signs, once these were in place we were ready to make a start.
Tom and Chris were climbing today, we always use two climbers where possible this speeds up the job and helps with fatigue and also halves the time working at height.
Chris and Tom decided which trees they were climbing and started to make the way to the top of the tree to find a suitable anchor point in which to attach the main climbing line. The trees were fairly straight forward to work on and because of the location all the climbers were able to throw out the braches instead of using the rigging rope this also speeds the job up.
The rest of the team were in charge of the cross cutting and stacking of brash and wood ready for chipping later.
We don’t often chip the waste until the climbers have descended down from the tree at break and lunch, as chipping creates a lot of noise and causes a breakdown in communication between ground staff and climbers.
