Today our tree surgeons in Fakenham where we are working on 2 Willow trees…
The trees are in a line of Willows which have been previously pollarded, once pollarded the trees should be managed and repollarded every 3-10years depending on the species of tree and the location.
Pollarding involves the removal of all branches of the tree leaving the trunk about 2.5meters high. We arrived on site about 8.15 and started with the usually risk assessment and survey for wildlife, birds etc, we then set up the site using signs, hazard tape etc once complete we positioned the up MEWP as the trees were to hazardous to climb being small fragile and not having any suitable anchor points in which to install a main climbing line, Rory was going to go up in the MEWP (mobile elevated work platform) while the rest of us were on the ground cross cutting and stacking the branches as they came down ready for chipping later.
On this occasion the customer wanted to keep the wood so we also cut into logs and stacked into heaps keeping the site clean and free from trip hazards. In this circumstance the customer keeping the wood its way of keeping down the cost as it saves on time and vehicle loads removed from site. The job itself was made a lot easier on this occasion by using the MEWP as were working right over a garage roof and a greenhouse. The trees around 6hrs to complete the client was so pleased with the way the work was undertaken he asked us to carry out some more work on anther property.
