Tree Reduction Work In Norfolk

Today one of the teams have been carrying out some tree reduction work in Norfolk…

The job was also a training day for a large company, the company were there to watch and learn about tree work and how it was undertaken in a controlled safe environment. This also gave them the opportunity to learn some of the basic techniques and standards required from a professional tree team.

The team arrived on site around 8.00am on the morning and proceeded to carry out a wildlife survey checking for Bats and Bird habitat, once this was completed they carried out a risk assessment.

The work was to remove dead wood, reduce the height of the tree and also selective limb reduction this work was being carried out because the tree had a lot of die back and also had the fungal fruiting bodies at the base of the tree.

As the tree was quite large we decided to use two climbers, this makes the job safer and also speed the job up and cuts down the time spent working at height.

Today Chris and Tom were going to climb so Tom installed his climbing line into the tree and started making his way up the tree. Once Tom had reached a suitable anchor point he then installed Chris’s line into the tree.

The climbers will generally work on separate sides of the tree and each will have a appointed grounds man.

Tom and Chris then proceeded top start the work while the grounds men where directing the climbers and also cross cutting and stacking the branches and wood ready for chipping later.

While the work was being carried I was talking through the techniques being used and explaining the reasons why this was being done.
