Once a tree is felled the client will be left with a stump. There are four ways in which a stump can be dealt with.

Firstly and probably the hardest way is to dig the stump by hand using a spade, Axe and a small handsaw. This can take several hours and be very hard work and would only be suitable for the smallest of stumps.

Next if you have a small stump and a suitable anchor point a winch can be used, again it involves digging and severing roots but buy using the winch life will be made a lot easier.

This method is very good to use if you have limited access and cannot get a machine to the stump.

The next option is to leave the stump in the ground and then it can be treated using Echo Plugs, these are small plugs which are placed in pre drilled holes approximately 10cm apart around the edge of the stump know as the cambium layer, this will kill the stump and stop any regeneration. The method is ok if the stump is not located in a position where its likely to create a trip hazard.

The third way in which to deal with the stump and probably the most effective way is the grind it.

Grinding involves the use of specialist machines which have a cutter wheel with teeth which chip away the wood removing the stump completely. The stump can be ground down to a depth of about 30cms or shallow ground enough to turf over top.

The stump grinder chips away at the stumps and mixers it with the soil, this can be left on site and used as a mulch and removed by us.

If the stump to removed is very large we can removed the spoil and replace with good quality top soil and grass seed if required. Stump grinding and removal need not be expensive if done correctly and it is more cost effective to have the contractor who removed the tree carry out the work. Stump grinding will not remove all the roots just the main stumps and any roots located above ground.
