Our Norfolk Tree surgeons have been working on a large mature Oak Tree….
The tree is in decline probably caused by excavation and compaction of soil from when the store was built.
This has caused a lot of the braches to die back and the tree has a lot of dead and dying wood and is located right over the store entrance and a trolley park, this puts the general public and store workers at risk when walking under the tree.
The job was to reduce the overall dimension’s of the tree by 3m cutting back the dead branch ends to live wood.
We decided to use a MEWP (Mobile Elevated Work Platform) on this job to speed up the job as we knew that the job could cause issues with staff and some members of the public, we also used a four man team because of this.
The job took a lot of planning because of where the tree was located and the fact that the store was open 7 days a week and was always busy. In the end we decided to reroute the customers around the tree to enter the store from the other side.
The day started with the risk assessment and setting up the site using barrier tape and signs to cordon of the whole of the work area, once this we done and as the tree had various cavities and loose bark and we were also using a mewp we decided to carry out a more detailed check for Bats.
Chris one of our IPAF qualified staff was going to go up in the mewp while the rest of the team were responsible for managing the ground work.
The tree is located outside a very busy store in Downham Market Norfolk.
